Mileage and boarding student allowances
L'allocation kilométrique
L'allocation kilométrique is a scheme to help students who have no transport available to get to their school or whose nearest stop on a transport network is at least 3 km away.
This allowance is allocated in the form of an annual lump sum based on four kilometer bands below:

The student must meet the following cumulative conditions:
- The student resides in the TCL network's area of jurisdiction
- The distance between the student's home and the nearest stop on a transport network (TCL or other) to get to his/her school is more than 3 km. In the absence of a transport network, the school must be located more than 3 km from the student's home.
- The student attends a public or private general, agricultural or vocational school.
- The student is enrolled from 6ème to Terminale.
- The student is a day or half-boarder (boarding students are not eligible).
The student can benefit from the mileage allowance while being a TCL subscriber. Applications are limited to one per family.
Mileage allowance applications must be submitted from October 15 to December 15, 2025 inclusive of the current school year. For the 2025-2026 year, mileage allowance applications are now closed.
The internal student allowance
Annual fee: €140
The boarding student allowance is a support scheme for students with boarding status.
This allowance is allocated in the form of an annual lump sum of €140.
The student must meet the following cumulative conditions:
- The student resides in the TCL network's area of jurisdiction.
- The distance between the student's home and the school is more than 10 km. The distance is defined by the route calculator Open Street Map (shortest route option).
- The student attends a public or private, general, agricultural or vocational school.
- The school must be located on the TCL territory or be the sector school in the opposite case.
- The student is enrolled in classes from 6ème to Terminale.
- The student is a boarder (day or half-boarders are not eligible) from 3 nights per week spent in a boarding school.
- The student must have been attending the school for at least 6 months on March 15 of the current school year.
- The student does not benefit from a combined young people's pass TCL + other networks (SNCF (ASR), STAR (Roanne), STAS (Saint-Etienne), L'VA (Vienne), Mobigo (Bourgogne-Franche-Comté) or Cars Région Ain, Isère or Loire).
How to apply for this allowance?
Applications for the boarding student allowance must be submitted between January 15 and March 15, 2026 inclusive of the current school year. For the 2025-2026 school year, applications for the boarding student allowance are now closed.
